DJI’s palm-sized Mini 2 drone flies further and shoots 4K for $449

Image
DJI’s palm-sized Mini 2 drone flies further and shoots 4K for $449 Last year’s DJI Mavic Mini might have been the smallest and lightest full-featured drone on the market, but it was also a little compromised out of the gate. Today, the DJI Mini 2 — don’t call it a Mavic — is addressing some of its limitations. While the new $449 drone might look identical to the original, even weighing the same 249 grams (which means you don’t need to register it with the FAA ), it now comes with DJI’s OcuSync 2 wireless connectivity for up to 2.5 times the wireless range and more stable connectivity. The original was unusual among DJI’s drones for relying on relatively shaky Wi-Fi, which was definitely a dealbreaker for me. It uses the same controller as the new Mavic Air 2 , though of course you won’t get that drone’s... DJI Pocket 2 packs more features and more mics into tiny 4K vlogger cam The DJI Pocket 2 is drone-maker DJI’s latest handheld stabilized vlogging camera, and comes with an upgraded camera, more microphones, and new modular design. It’s releasing on November 1st with a starting price of $349 for a basic selection of accessories, but there’s also a $499 kit that comes with an extra lens, tripod, external microphone, and feature-packed handle. Although the Pocket 2 has a similar design to the original Osmo Pocket , with a small grip topped with a camera mounted on a three-axis gimbal, its internals have been upgraded across the board. For starters, it has a larger 1/1.7-inch image sensor compared to the original’s 1/2.3-inch sensor, and its lens offers a wider 20mm field of view with an aperture of f/1.8... DJI announces Ronin S 2 and Ronin SC 2 gimbals

Image
DJI announces Ronin S 2 and Ronin SC 2 gimbals Courtesy of DJI It’s been well over a month since DJI teased its new products, but today it officially announced two new gimbals — the Ronin S 2 and the smaller Ronin SC 2. Both three-axis gimbals come with upgrades you’d expect — stronger motors, heavier payloads, lighter materials, but also some software features we haven’t seen yet. Before we get to that, let’s start with the hardware changes on the RS 2. The more professional gimbal out of the two is now made with carbon fiber and is 1.3lbs lighter than the original Ronin S, weighing in at a total of 2.86lbs. DJI says the RS 2 supports maximum dynamic payload up to 10lbs. It can theoretically hold even heaving rigs, but you probably won’t get ideal performance with that. The gimbal also comes... DJI officially announces Osmo Mobile 4, adding magnetic mounts to the foldable phone stabilizer

Image
DJI officially announces Osmo Mobile 4, adding magnetic mounts to the foldable phone stabilizer Courtesy of DJI DJI is expanding its lineup of motorized smartphone video stabilizers with the newly announced Osmo Mobile 4. The OM4 keeps the same foldable design as its predecessor, but it now comes with two magnetic mounts so you can quickly attach and detach your phone without needing to clamp it down and rebalance it between shoots. One magnetic mount is a clamp which wraps around your phone, while the second one attaches to the back of your phone and doubles as a finger ring so you can get a better grip with one hand. Image: DJI Aside from keeping the foldable design that let the Osmo Mobile 3 shrink down easily into a bag, OM4 also retains the same intuitive button layout and the same 15-hour battery, which can be used to... DJI Osmo Mobile 4 leaks with convenient magnetic quick mounts

Image
DJI Osmo Mobile 4 leaks with convenient magnetic quick mounts The Osmo Mobile 4 appears to be using a new magnetic mounting system. | Image: Roland Quandt DJI could be about to announce a new smartphone gimbal called the Osmo Mobile 4 — now abbreviated “OM 4” — according to a new report from WinFuture . A video short posted to Twitter by WinFuture ’s Roland Quandt shows two new magnetic mounting mechanisms that let you quickly snap your smartphone into the mount, a big improvement over the previous model. If this trailer is accurate, it could mean the new Osmo has addressed one of the biggest complaints we had about the Osmo Mobile 3 when we tried it out last year . Previously, you had to slide your smartphone into a claw mount, but now it looks like you pre-attach a magnetic disk or claw to the back of your phone, letting you quickly snap the handset into the gimbal with the help of magnets. ... The US government can’t use DJI drones - but here are five it just approved

The US government can’t use DJI drones - but here are five it just approved Teal’s Golden Eagle drone. | Image: Flir DJI may be synonymous with “drone,” but after the US Armed Forces, the Pentagon, and the Department of the Interior started banning and grounding Chinese models over spying fears , it created a vacuum in the market for a drone the United States government could trust. But the US Department of Defense may already be filling that hole. It just wrapped up a program designed to find more palatable drones — one that actually kicked off in November 2018, arguably long before the tensions with China boiled over. Today, the DoD’s Defense Innovation Unit is announcing not one, not two, but five such drones that have been tested, approved, and are now formally available for government use — including two from formerly consumer-focused drone... Skydio says it’s not pivoting away from consumer drones, won’t weaponize its self-flying tech

Skydio says it’s not pivoting away from consumer drones, won’t weaponize its self-flying tech Image: Skydio If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the day when self-flying drone startup Skydio becomes a true competitor to DJI, you might taken today’s announcement poorly. You might have assumed that after two impressive drones that didn’t quite fulfill their full potential, Skydio’s decision to build its next flying flagship camera exclusively for the enterprise and military markets meant it was done with consumers entirely. But Skydio CEO Adam Bry tells The Verge he’s just getting started — there are more consumer drones on the way. “We have more products coming in that market that we’re excited about,” reveals Bry, saying the timing was simply right to expand into the enterprise market, too. In both markets, he says, the goal isn’t to try to beat... Continue reading… Sean Hollister July 14, 2020 at 03:23AM Kaynak The Verge - All Posts Click on the link to read more

Autonomous drone maker Skydio shifts to military and enterprise with its first folding drone Photo: Skydio Skydio, a startup that makes autonomous drones that fly themselves with little human intervention, is entering the commercial drone market with its new X2 model . The X2 is Skydio’s first non-consumer device and it’s marketed toward government agencies, the military, and other organizations that require aerial surveillance or surveying, and it comes with a built-in infrared thermal camera. The X2 announcement coincides with Skydio’s new round of $100 million in funding, led by German multinational company Siemens’ Next47 firm. Skydio first entered the market a little more than two years ago with the Skydio R1 . The R1 was an autonomous drone that sported impressive artificial intelligence-powered obstacle avoidance and other sensors and... DJI’s Osmo Action camera is almost half off at Amazon

DJI’s Osmo Action camera is almost half off at Amazon DJI’s first action camera is almost as good as the best GoPro, says reviewer Brent Rose. | Photo by Brent Rose for The Verge Today’s deals are a mix of low-priced gadgets made even more affordable as well as some high-end products that don’t usually see a discount. The biggest price cut is on DJI’s Osmo Action 4K HDR camera. It usually costs $500, but today at Amazon, you can get it for $288 . The price reduction is impressive, but what makes this deal extra special is that the camera comes with a 128GB microSD card and DJI’s Care Refresh service plan that allows up to two replacement units in one year. Aukey’s 65W Omnia charger with two USB-C ports. Next is Aukey’s 65W Omnia GaN wall charger. Normally $50, it’s $38 over at Amazon if you check out with the offer code DETL5M4Y . This model features two USB-C ports, and it’s powerful enough to... Continue reading… Cameron Faulkner May 26, 2020 at 06:48PM Feed The V...
